Short company profile: The company was founded by Metalleghe S.p.A. based in Brescia (Flero) and is part of the Metalleghe Group.

Metalleghe S.p.A. was established in 1980 with the primary activity of trading in iron alloys and the constant expansion of activities and capacities in the years of its operation, and accordingly ranking among the leaders in this field, among other things through the establishment of B.S.I. LLC Jajce and production of Si-metal, starting from 2004.

SILICON METAL (Si)

Silicon metal is obtained by reducing quartz using carbon in electric arc furnaces.

As a semiconductor, silicon plays a first-class role in semiconductor electronics. The property of silicon to dissolve well in dissolved metals is used for alloying with iron and non-ferrous metals, which contributes to the improvement of mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. Particularly large amounts of silicon are used in the aluminum industry.

Si metal is usually classified according to the content of three main impurities: iron, aluminum and calcium.

FERROSILICON

Ferrosilicon ( FeSi )

Ferrosilicon alloys of 50% and 75% (FeSi50 and FeSi75) are produced by carbothermal reduction in a submerged arc furnace. The source of iron is iron ore or waste, and for silicon it is quartz. The main melting reaction is the same as for melting silicon metal.

MICROSILICA

Microsilica

Microsilica can be divided into two basic types: “undensified” and “densified”, and in fact their chemical composition is completely the same as long as there are differences in physical form, ie in volume density.
